          Burial Space Trust:  Burial space items such as a plot, crypt,
          mausoleum, casket, urn, niche, and other similar items for you
          and certain members of your immediate family  
          
Irrevocable Trust:  A trust that cannot exceed the value of $10,808.00
          Typically designed to be used with the burial space trust and/or
          funeral insurance
          
Funeral Insurance (Preneed Funeral Policy):  Which has been
          assigned to cover funeral costs and irrevocably transferred to a
          trust.  As of June 2006, Michigan law allows a person to assign up to
          $8,808.00 of funeral insurance to cover funeral costs




*There are other assets that are not counted.  This list only includes the most
commonly excluded assets.

**As noted above, a home that you own in Michigan does not affect your DHS
eligibility, regardless of its value.  The land it sits on and household items in it are
also exempt. However, DHS does not let you keep any of your income to help pay
for the upkeep, taxes and insurance on your home unless the home is rented.  If
you are renting your home for a fair market value, DHS will let you keep some of
the rental income to pay these expenses.
